Feedback makes me smile...
"Where am I going?" Ashlee asked as she stood up and followed the officer out of the cell and down the hallway.
"You are being released on bail." The officer replied stopping at a desk and giving her a bag that held her watch and earrings. He pushed a clip board at her and pointed to a spot where she was supposed to sign.
"My mom bailed me out?" Ashlee couldn't believe her mom had been able to come up with the money so fast. She was so relieved to be leaving the jail, at least for now. Ashlee quickly signed her name and then handed it back to him.
"No, it wasn't Mayor Wolfe." The officer replied signing his name on the paper as well. "It was Chief Cooper's brother." Ashlee's jaw dropped in surprise. She knew immediately that he must've used most, if not all of the money from his book deal to get her out.
"Is he here?" Ashlee couldn't imagine that Coop would bail her out and then leave her to find her own way home.
"He's waiting outside... you are free to go. Here are the guide lines you need to follow. Once they set your court date you'll recieve more information." Ashlee murmured a thank you, grabbed the bag with her stuff and headed out the doors. Coop was standing there waiting for her. He looked like he'd been through hell, Ashlee suspected she didn't look much better.
"Come here..." He mumbled pulling her in to his arms. She wrapped her arms around his waist and clung to him for a moment. Maybe if she didn't let go everything else would just disappear. Ashlee enjoyed that thought for a moment before pulling away a bit, keeping her hands on his waist because she couldn't give up the contact with him completely.
"Thank you for getting me out... but Coop you really shouldn't have used your book money for..."
"Forget about that." Coop interrupted taking her face in his hands. "Are you okay?" Ashlee almost smiled at the complete absurdity of that question. Physically she was fine, but emotionally she was completely freaked out. She had inadvertently killed someone, then been arrested for it. She was about as far from okay as she could get.
"I'm... really tired." She decided that was probably the safest and truest answer she could give him.
"Come on." He said taking her hand in his and leading her to his car.
Ashlee almost fell asleep on the way back to the Beacon. She was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open. When they got to the Beacon, Coop unlocked the door to her room and waited for her to step inside.
As soon as she entered the room, she felt herself start to panic. She knew it wasn't the same room. Rationally she realized there was no reason to get upset, but all the rooms at the Beacon looked the same and she couldn't shake the feeling that Blake was laying on the other side of the bed.
She turned to Coop with tears in her eyes. "I... I can't stay here... Please, I don't want to stay here..." Coop put his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. He didn't ask her any questions which she appreciated, he just understood.
"We can stay at the boarding house." He said against the top of her head. "Just let me gather up some stuff for you, okay?" She nodded bumping the top of her head against his chin.
Coop went to gather her things and she walked in to the hallway and took a deep breath trying to calm herself.

The look on Ashlee's face when she'd walked in to her room at the Beacon had shaken Coop. He honestly didn't realize that being there was going to cause her so much distress or he would've taken her to the boarding house right away.
He had called his dad on the way there. Buzz was more than happy to get a room ready for them. Doris had already filled his dad in on the situation which left Coop to wonder just what was going on with the two of them. He didn't spend to much time thinking about it though, because he just wanted to make sure Ashlee was okay.
As soon as they'd got to the boarding house Ashlee had gone to take a shower. Coop wondered if she'd even make it to the shower, because she was so obviously exhausted. Coop had offered to stay with her, but she had told him she needed a few minutes alone. He wasn't happy about it, but he let her have her way.
He couldn't just wait in the room for her, he was feeling too restless. He went and found his dad. Buzz took one look at him and said "you want to talk?" Coop gave his dad a nod.
Buzz sat with Coop on the steps to the boarding house, so he'd be close if Ashlee needed him. "How did this happen, Coop?"
"I honestly don't know, pop. All I know is that Blake tried to shoot her. They fought over the gun, it went off and Blake... didn't make it... and I can't help thinking this is somehow my fault because if I hadn't led Blake on..."
"Coop, this isn't your fault. Obviously, Blake was more mentally unstable than any of us realized." Coop couldn't help thinking how big of an understatement that was. "Is Ashlee okay?" Buzz gave his son a concerned look.
"Physically she's fine. I just think when she starts to actually process everything, she's going to have a hard time with it." Buzz put his arm around Coop.
"Don't worry, Coop. She'll get through this. We'll make sure of it." Coop shot his dad a grateful look. He didn't get a chance to say anything else, because an ear-piercing scream came from the boarding house. Buzz and Coop both shot to their feet at the sound. One word escaped Coop's lips as he ran up the stairs.
"Ashlee."

Date: 2008-07-20 10:54 pm (UTC)This story is so good I can't even began to describe it. You are making me as nervous as Ashlee is. Blake is wrecking havoc and she's not even alive. That is so true to life. I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next.
Oh and by the way if this is how you feel when I leave you with a Cliffhanger... I'm sorry. *laughing* Hurry with the next chapter please. *sad puppy dog eyes* I love it so much. ***hugs***
Oh before I forget... do I see some BucWild in this fiction? *giddy smile*

Date: 2008-07-21 02:27 pm (UTC)I'm so glad you like the story, Jai. Your comments mean so much to me. *hugs* Blake is just evil enough to cause trouble from the grave. *laughing*
I'm sorry about the cliffhanger. I know how frustrating they can be. *hugs* I'm hoping to have the next chapter done today.
There is a hint of BucWild. I'm not sure how much of it will come in to play at the moment.
Thank you, as always for the support! You're the best. *hugs*
